Somach, Simmons & Dunn-Names Two New Shareholders and Welcomes an Associate
Daniel Kelly has been named shareholder at the Sacramento law firm of Somach Simmons & Dunn. Mr. Kelly joined the firm as an associate attorney in September 2001. His practice areas include water law, administrative law, environmental law, public agency law, and related fields. He represents a diverse range of clients, including public agencies, local districts, private landowners, and businesses, and serves on the editorial board of the California Water Law & Policy Reporter. Mr. Kelly earned his J.D. from the University of California at Davis, King Hall School of Law. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Kelly worked for several engineering firms assisting in the design of both residential and commercial development projects.
Kanwarjit (Jit) S. Dua has been named shareholder at the Sacramento law firm of Somach Simmons & Dunn. Mr. Dua joined the firm as an associate attorney in March 2004. His practice areas include land use, environmental concerns such as underground storage tanks and potential liability under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, water quality law including Clean Water Act citizen suit defense, and real estate law. He represents a diverse range of clients, including public agencies, property owners, contractors and developers. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Dua was an associate attorney at Realty Law LLP and Skjerven Morrill MacPherson LLP in San Jose, California. He earned his LL.M. in 1999 from Santa Clara University School of Law. He also earned a law degree from the University of Delhi, Faculty of Law in New Delhi, India.
Brian D. Poulsen Jr. has joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2007, after previously clerking with the firm in 2006. In May 2007, he earned a J.D. with honors, from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law where he also earned a Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. In law school, he served as Articles Editor for Journal of Land Resources and Environmental Law, was the recipient of the Robert W. Swenson Fellowship in Natural Resources Law and the recipient of the Robert Schmid Natural Resources Writing Award. Mr. Poulsen was a member of the University of Utah’s National Environmental Moot Court Team and was awarded Best Oral Advocate in the National Competition at Pace University. Prior to joining the firm, he clerked with Western States Water Council, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. Mr. Poulsen graduated summa cum laude from the University of Utah with a B.S. in environmental studies, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a member of the State Bar of California.
